Salt Spreader

Request:

A manufacturer of snow plows had difficulty dispensing salt at a constant rate.  Variable such as vehicle ground speed were constantly changing faster than the operator can react.  They also wanted to reduce maintenance requirements by eliminating a long push-pull cable which needed to be replaced biannually.

Solution:

The client removed the push-pull cable and replaced it with a 720 series actuator.  A custom controller was created which monitored ground speed and which adjusted the speed of the salt spreader accordingly. 

Requirements met for our customer:

• Enabled the drivers of the salt trucks to be able to concentrate on the road instead of how much salt to dispense.

• Reduced salt usage by 8%.
• Removed push-pull cable which reduced maintenance time.
